How Cream Eyeshadows Should Be

DSCN0242 The hard cold fact that Tom Ford Cream Colour Eyeshadows were sold out just about everywhere was a hard pill to swallow – even harder when it concerned the shade Spice. Even a trip to London made me go home barehanded – clearly a hide and seek game not meant for me to play. But then Sarah emailed me with exciting news that she managed to get her hands on one last little pot of bronze gold – girl, I owe you one! Well, this can only be faith, right?

Tom Ford however created a formula that doesn’t come near to anything else I had ever tried. It’s as if he created new standards other brands should take note of.

Personally cream eyeshadows were never really my thing. I’ve tried hard to fall in love with them but that’s something that hardly ever works out – to love something has to come naturally. In my experience they either tend to crease, apply unevenly or are hard to blend. Tom Ford however created a formula that doesn’t come near to anything else I had ever tried. It’s as if he created new standards other brands should take note of. You’d probably wonder why I bother to write a review dedicated to a product that isn’t available anymore. His cream eyeshadows are often part of limited edition collections, so I suggest you better keep your eyes peeled …

Tom Ford Cream Colour Eyeshadows are cream eyeshadows with quite a vast texture that’s wetter than most. As expected, they are seriously pigmented. A small amount is enough to cover your lids: a quick swipe provides a sheer wash of colour, whilst a more intense and opaque look is easily achieved thanks to its exquisite formula: it allows to build intensity evenly without creasing. The formula doesn’t set immediately which makes blending a piece of cake. It’s actually as if it blends itself out – no need to dirty brushes.   Once it sets, it doesn’t budge. Considering the creamy formula, it stays on the lids there where it should for a good day wear. As amazing the formula is, it would’ve less value if the shade wasn’t your cup of tea. It speaks for itself that Spice is right up my street: a golden bronze that reflects light in the most stunning way. It imparts a soft pearly finish that doesn’t turn frosty. Such a beaut.

Tom Ford is releasing Powder and Cream Eyeshadows that are part of his SS15 collection, from which I’m eyeing Intense Bronze: for swatches go to ReallyRee. A more affordable option would be the MaxFactor Excess Shimmer Shadow Bronze: for swatches go to ColourMeLoud. Please Mr Tom Ford, would you please add these gems to your permanent collection? In the meantime I’m already worrying about the day I’ll be running out of it …

THAT. IS. BEAUTIFUL. You are beautiful! Have never tried a Tom Ford cream shadow but I would love to. I’m quite 50-50 with the Chanel illusion d’Ombres. Not too wow-ed by them. These Tom Ford ones though… dang! Your photos also don’t help temper this excessive need to have one!!

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Your comments are making me smile, you babe! <3 I'm actually also not the biggest fan of the Chanel Illusion d'Ombres, so let me assure you they aren't comparable at all. And sorry, but you won't regret spending your money on these, pinky promise! Keep your eyes peeled is the message, lol.

  • Agata

I don’t wear a lot of cream eyeshadows either but this looks really good on you! I wish TF wasn’t so expensive though!

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

I agree. I would’ve long raided those shelves otherwise! But in fact, these TF cream eyeshadows (£29) are not much more expensive than Chanel’s (£25). It’s worth checking out! ;) X

  • Jasmine

You lucky gal, the finish is beautiful and little note: super cute collage of you and cat in the back! Thanks for sharing the budgettip as well.

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Hi Jasmine. Thank you, and I am. Oh thanks again, my cat recently passed away and my boyfriend gave this as a present and also as a memory of him. I love it as well! ^^

  • Anu

that looks soo nice on you. I use maybelline color tattoos and really like it. I have heard good things about Tom Ford shadows, but they are really out of my budget. Maybe when I start to make real money someday.

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Hi Anu. Thank you – so kind of you! Well, Maybelline probably does the best cream eyeshadows drugstore-wise, so whilst it’s not a dupe it’s a great alternative. And one day, you’ll be able to spoil yourself with Tom Ford … I’m already excited for you, LOL.

      X Alice

      • Anu

Thank you. One day for sure. Have you used any of the armani or chanel cream shadows?

        • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

I’ve tried Chanel and whilst they aren’t necessarily bad, they do dry out quickly. The formula is not comparable to Tom Ford: it’s more powerdery, less pigmented and more shimmery. I know a lot of people adore these, so it’s down to preference I think! I hope this helps ;)

          • Anu

            Thank you! it does help.

  • Lily

Gorgeous color on you! I’ve been avoiding cream products in a pot because they’ll dry out before I can put a dent in them. While I’m itching to try these, I’m also trying to stay away. Lol

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Hi Lily! I actually read that these cream eyeshadows don’t dry out easily. I will keep you updated if you like? :p X

  • Sara@ColorMeLoud

Bronzes are so your color, you look stunning in that one! I am so glad I got to find you one and that you are loving it. Xox

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Hahaha, I can only agree with you! It’s all thanks to you, this post wouldn’t have been possible without you! <3

  • Fay

It is sooooo pretty!! Oh, and you look absolutely amazing. Kisses from a secret (not so secret) admirer! Keep it up babe <3

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

You’re the best babe! <3 My not so secret admirer … LOL!

  • Kiss & Make-up

It looks absolutely beautiful! <3 The texture looks amazing. I can't stop looking at it.

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Haha I totally agree! And it photographs so well. I almost didn’t want to ruin the surface, silly me! X

  • Makeup Monster

Fantastic review! First time visiting your blog and instantly I love it!

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Oh thank you so much – so kind of you! I had a peek at your blog and it looks lovely as well! Will definitely have a read later! X

  • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Thanks for creating lemming for something that is no longer available LOL I thought about it when it was still available, but I was worried it wouldn’t last on my lids. Next time they release a shade that I like, I will finally take the plunge!

    • Alice Yeh (叶翠云)

Gosh I’m sorry but I just had to share my love. I suggest you keep your eyes peeled for Tom Ford’s summer collection? I reckon Intense Bronze should also be a pretty shade. And for the lasting power, I was also impressed how long it lasted. And no more doubts next time, lol! X
